Learning to Aid Climb: TowerLand near Hanksville, Utah

Back towards the end of October I got to go with Michael and Jim to Utah to learn how to aid climb from Utah Climbing Club members. We drove out to Hanksville, Utah to climb at a place the club called "TowerLand". I think the place may also be better known as "Viewfinder Towers" or something like that. We left Thursday night from California and drove all night to get to Utah the next morning at 7am.

Sandstone Crack and Tower Climbing in Utah's San Rafael Swell

Sometimes it's a little unmotivating to pick up and drive 10 hours just for a weekend trip down to Utah, but the Climbing Clubs plan was to climb at San Rafael Swell's Lightbulb Tower and I just couldn't miss it. I'm really interested in getting better at crack climbing because I'm really no good at it at all, and being good at crack climbing will be key to my trad climbing future. Also, I've never climbed a tower before and the chance to be like that commercial on TV was just too alluring.

Rock Climbing at Rock Canyon and the Hinterlands, Utah

I'm almost a week late in typing this up, but better late than never I guess. It's just been one of those weeks you know, where you are really REALLY lazy. I don't even really have a solid excuse for it. I've just been bumming to work, bumming back home, bumming on the couch, and then repeating the whole thing all over agin. Quite pathetic, and I'll look to be more productive next week.

An Everest Ridge First Attempt - Mt. Timpanogos, Utah

Last weekend I did something pretty out of my league, and it was awesome! Except that I can admit that it took me full circle to come back to that conclusion. I will explain later. I joined a club this year called Utah Climbing Club per my coworker's suggestion to help me achieve some awesome things and see some new amazing places. This was my first event I've been able to attend, Everest Ridge in Utah on Mt. Timpanogos.
